Men in general are usually reluctant to visit the doctor. That could be the reason why doctors in Jamaica have been encouraging the men to get their medical checkups annually. There is an overpowering lack of motivation to keep a good health record. Research has shown that there is a cultural obstacle that prevent men in Jamaica to willing seek medical attention.
One Jamaican Urologist, Dr. Elon Thompson, is in agreement with the report by citing the lack of health-seeking behaviour among the leading cultural barrier working against men getting better health care. Dr Thompson said men believe they are fine once their bodies look great and they are healthy and strong, then all is well.
They will ignore any sign or symptom on their health that have been plaguing them, but refuse to pay attention because of that “Macho” attitude that you do not have to visit the doctor.
